Not all therapists are afraid. Some see affirmation as having been co-opted by the trans activists, and are working to take it back from them in order to affirm many parts of an individual and not just gender identity, whatever that means.
That said, my best advice is always for parents to seek out therapy or consultation from a GC clinician. There are many more who are willing to work with children indirectly through parents, and this makes sense because the gender crisis is a family crisis. Also, the parents are the ones who are with the kid 24/7 and can learn to intervene and respond as things happen. It's truly a long and tedious process, and very often a trans-identifying kid won't even agree to work with a therapist who is picked by parents.
Wishing you fortitude.
