My teen has opened up to me about multiple things, one of which sounds like gender dysphoria. I am frozen solid on what to do next. I am VERY wary of today's political climate (I tend to be a very middle of the road person, looking to reason and credible science where possible) and its influence on this topic is truly scary.
I just want to make sure that a doctor we visit will be as unbiased as possible in diagnosing what is actually happening. This all came about at in late teen years, but feelings started with the onset of puberty. Totally normal gender feelings through childhood through their own recollection.
I am checking online resources all over the place, but so many are overrun with bias and "cancel" culture stuff (e.g. no room to posit ideas or potential solutions). I really want to help my child through this, but I am so scared to make the wrong decision. I have coached to take things very slow and that the goal should be to resolve the dysphoria with an appropriate professional.
Sorry this is so long - just trying to give a little background and look for a potential list of reasonable psychologist/psychiatrists that will not diagnose without real discovery.
I am a little nervous about posting my location on the public side of this forum as I do not want this tracing back in any way to my child/family. What would I need to fill out or whom do I connect with to enter the private portion?
Thank you!
