finding reliable medical practitioners
(03-Apr-2018, 01:55 AM)chebj064 Wrote: I have a 17 years old daughter who is determined to start hormone treatment once she's in college, and will try to have surgery asap. She changed her name to a boy's name when she was 14 years old, and I didn't realize how serious the problem was back then. Now I'm so worried, and I'm looking for a therapist in Washington DC area (including Maryland and Virgina),  who can help me convince her to wait until later in her life to make such decisions.
hi there, i don't know if you still look at these posts.. but how did your situation work out? my daughter is 14 and our story is unfolding similarily to yours... how is your daughter now?

I have a 14 yo daughter who is witty, smart, beautiful and has always suffered from FOMO (fear of missing out). We live in Ontario Canada (near Toronto) and have been in pandemic lockdown since March 2020. Our family has gone through drastic changes since 2016 (divorce, two house moves, job loss (dad), girlfriends, job changes, and ... puberty!). Summer 2020 she comes out as bi-sexual. Fall 2020 ... she starts insisting that she cuts her hair shorter and shorter. Winter 2020/2021 she comes out as trans. This is happening all so fast. She is the kid who fights for the underdog and would be burning her bra if we were in 1960. She is (IMO) not trans but rather... lonely, wanting, needing... feeling lost and disconnected. She is acting as though she is in a cult and drinking the kool aid by the gallon. She wants desperately to be the 'cool' kid... the outrageous one... the brave one... the one that is a bit different and gets the attention she desires. But is looking for affirmation in all the wrong places. Is there any other parent in the Toronto area that has or is dealing with this? While I don't believe she is trans and I'm pretty sure she doesn't believe she is trans... she would rather save face and do something crazy (b/c she's 14) than admit she might not be. At this point I feel like we are in a game of chicken or go and it's about saving face. Has anyone else experienced this as well? My end goal.. to keep her safe, healthy and her options OPEN!

Hi Everyone,

Daughter was recently mentally hospitalzied and is now more stable. High-functioning autistic and has socially transitioned.  Everyone tells me I'm unsupportive or letting my "faith" get in the way of her happiness. And I feel so isolated...so I'm happy to find this space.  I'm looking for support since I moved to Davis, CA. Please let me know.

Hello, ABhopeful, and welcome. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's troubles but glad to hear she is improving. Because forum members don't visit this public portion of the board very often, I invite you to join this forum as a member, so you will have access to the members-only area. In the members-only area, you'll find support and information from parents who are in similar situations.

Post back if you have any questions about joining or need help joining.

After lockdown and intense internet use my daughter has ROGD. She is demanding binders, hormones etc and I just want to find a good therapist that won’t go down that road. She has other issues: links to autism and eating disorders.

I would refer her to Stella O'Malley - or check with her.  She's excellent and has a concern for autistic girls.  bayswatersupport.org.uk/

Any recommendations for therapists in New Braunfels, San Antonio or Austin, TX?  Our son went from excited to start at a new HS and starting his own writing club and being much more social than he had been in years to finding the GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) club, announcing he's GD and suicidal. It's so difficult to find mental health care in this country...

We're trying to be accepting and we don't look down on any LBGTQ people, we just think he's been influenced somehow into this and need some help.

I am looking for a therapist in London Ontario for my 15 y/o daughter. I will post my (our) story however I am just discovering this forum and am working a stretch of nights. Any glimmer of help or hope would be much appreciated. Just starting to wade these waters and have no idea where/how to begin or even what to say to her that will be productive.

Hi,

I'm looking for a therapist for my 19-year-old daughter with ROGD in the San Francisco/San Jose area. Would appreciate any recommendations.
Also open to a good therapist, located anywhere, who provides remote/online therapy, and who would be able to explore possible underlying conditions before affirming her self-diagnosis.

Thanks,
DanielB

Hello, guest. I invite you to join this forum as a member (click "join" in the black bar at the top of this page) so that on the chance that someone has a therpaist recommendation in your area, they can send you a PM, otherwise known as a private message. We ask that therapist names not be shared publicly as therapists can lose their licenses if they don't affirm and only affirm, thanks to vague, unfortunately worded and misconstrued "conversion therapy" laws. Only forum members can send and receive private messages, so please consider joining.

Additionally, I think you will find the forum is helpful and a source of support.
You are not alone.

Hello,

I am a new member and thankful to be here. I'm struggling to navigate the process of finding a therapist who will take a holistic look at gender dysphoria.

I am in the Philadelphia area. Does anyone have any recommendations for a therapist they trust?

THANK YOU for any guidance. I'm feeling lost, alone and unclear on how to proceed.
