You are smart to be wary of therapists, as they are being taught that the only way to handle these confused kids is to affirm their belief they're the opposite sex and get the child a referral to an MD who will start medicating them, either with puberty blockers or opposite-sex hormones, depending upon the child's age. There is no exploration or waiting period, as this is considered transphobic or conversion therapy.
Carefully pre-screen any therapist before allowing them access to your child.
