Hi, I'm looking for a therapist in MA who can help with our 12-year-old child. Starting with teachers at the start of middle school asking for pronouns in class, we've been down a path of pronouns and name change, self-harm, hospitalization, and inpatient therapy that lasted weeks. School, doctor, and therapist have all led us down a path of social transition that we feel very uneasy about. We can't seem to find resources to help with an alternative approach focused on or exploration of what is leading us to where we are right now vs. starting immediately with affirmation. It's been a nightmare and we need help.

Hi, I am also in Seattle. My 13 year old daughter has had a rough couple of years (hard periods, lonely, depressed, anxiety). She started with they/them pronouns (which we have dutifully tried) but now thinks she might be a fem boy (she is not boyish at all). She has been seeing an online therapist who seems quite useless and my husband and I now realize has probably been affirming the he/him thing. Any leads on a good therapist in Seattle would be greatly appreciated. It is nice to know there is another parent in Seattle who gets how scary and serious this whole thing is.

I am looking for a therapist on Long Island for my 19 year old daughter who announced a year ago she was transgender.

I had bad experiences with her college therapist in Massachusetts because she was referred to the Fenway Clinic and they wanted to immediately start hormones. They also convinced her she wasn't trans enough and she insisted after meeting with them she needed to be moved to a boys dorm floor.  I had to pay an extra $2000 to provide a private room with a private shower.  Fenway told her to use the boys showers. UGH.

She is home now from college and still speaking about hormones.  KM is a recent ROGD.  She has a history of anxiety, cutting, depression, dyslexia, low self esteem from learning disabilities, poor reaction to SSRI's, hospitalizations, bullying, hypothyroid, PCOS.    I was given 2 names. Shervin Shadianloo MD and Richard Pleak, MD.  I saw one comment on Dr. Pleak from a woman who stated felt pressured into hormones and surgery by Dr. Pleak and his staff and now regrets it.  I'm not sure about Dr. Shadianloo.  I saw that he wrote sections of textbooks about trans gender issues and he may be too gender affirming but I'm not completely sure of his opinions.  He did not have any reviews on any boards that I saw.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you.

I'm not sure if I am replying in the appropriate space, but I will give this a try. Thank you for the advice about whom not to use in Massachusetts. Does anyone know of a good therapist in the Boston area who treats these teens and young adults with a wider lens to focus more on the wider issues, like depression? I would appreciate any recommendations. Thank you.

Is there anyone who could help my 17 year old daughter with gender dysphoria in Miami Florida? I search for countless hours on the internet and I can't find anyone reliable everyone seems very sketchy. Who can I trust, Im so overwhelmed. My daughter who never showed signs of such issue like 'EVER"... What has happened to her? She was girly, always dressing up like a princess, had friends. Now she has no friends, and the few that she had were all in the same boat, going through similar scenarios. Now a days, my daughter doesn't eat to shave, she has the worst hygiene, she's always wearing hoodies and jogging pants, she hates makeup, he armpits are scary, she self harms every chance she can or is experiencing anxiety. She walks in circles, talks to herself, is continuously shaking her hands, she starts laughing all of the sudden for the weirdest reasons, keeps to herself in her room most the time, is all the sudden into anime and weird dark cartoons, doesn't want a relationship with me or her father, she cannot stand us, she has no respect for us, I don't know what to do or where to go from here. HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forum, Mommy123.

I am so sorry for the troubles your daughter and yourself are having. It is such a difficult and upsetting situation to find yourselves in.

I am sending you a PM (private message) with a possible name in a nearby town.

In the meantime, your account has been activated. I encourage you to post your query in the members-only area, now that you have access to it as a forum member. If you post in that area, more members will see your post and you'll have a better chance at getting a response. I also encourage you to visit this page, which has advice for finding, interviewing and vetting therapists:   https://genderexploratory.com/browse/

Often, finding your own therapist using this advice is the best or sometimes even the only way to find a therapist, as most cannot advertise that they offer an exploratory approach because it is considered within some laws to be conversion therapy. Obviously it is not, but that is the insane position parents find themselves in these days.

There is additional advice for finding and vetting therapists inside the members-only area of this forum.

Hang in there, fellow parents are here to offer what help we can, as well as lots of support.

Wishing you the best, and again, welcome to the forum.
