finding reliable medical practitioners

(01-Nov-2020, 11:07 PM)Truvy Jones Wrote: Hi, I am new to this group. My 16-year-old daughter announced 2 years ago that she was "non-binary". Like others in this group, she showed absolutely no signs of any sort of gender dysphoria until a LOT of internet use (including watching porn in 6th grade right as she hit puberty, which my husband and I believe turned her away from the idea of any sort of heterosexual relationship). She wants us to use "they/them" and call her by the name Blake, which she thinks is gender neutral because of Blake Lively. She says that she wants to dress gender neutral, but everything she wears is masculine. Ironically, all through elementary school she would ONLY wear dresses and skirts. My daughter hasn't started talking about hormones, but she is binding her chest with an ace bandage. I am so worried that once she turns 18, I won't be able to stop her from taking drastic measures.
Anyway, I know that most therapists automatically confirm that these girls are trans with no questions asked. I am looking for a therapist who might have a different viewpoint and explore this deeper with her. Can anyone recommend a therapist in the St. Louis area? I am getting desperate as this is bringing our relationship to a breaking point. I love her and don't want to lose her.

My daughter  is 15 and also identifies as either nonbinary or trans guy. Does anyone know a therapist in Saint Louis?  If  not, someone willing to work remotely? ( not the best option but I am desperate) Thanks so much!
We are also in St. Louis. Did you find anyone? If so, please share. I will do the same.

not yet but will share if I do. Thanks for doing the same!

Hi all! I can very much relate to the all things parents say and post here. I have a 19 years old daughter who declared she is a trans out of the blue after her two friends become transitioning. She has depression and anxiety and is willing to try therapy first (fingers crossed) before doing drastic irreversible measures to her body. I am looking for someone who doesn't use 'gender affirmative' approach, preferably from phsycodynamic school. I currently live in Oregon (Portland metro area). Thank you! This web-site is a huge support for me knowing I am not alone.

Hello, helena, and welcome.

I'm sorry to hear about your daughter but it is great news she's willing to try therapy. I invite you to post your request in the members-only area, as this public area of the forum doesn't get much traffic from our members. You'll have a better chance of getting responses if you post in the members-only area.

Welcome to the forum. You are not alone.

Hi, I just joined this forum and am in the same situation as you. Also located in New England. I wanted to follow up to see if you found a good therapist whose name you could share with me? I’m so worried about my daughter and need to find the right therapist to help. Thank you!

Here is a video from Partners for Ethical Care discussing the challenges in finding a therapist for your child who will not immediately affirm them, and strategies to help increase your chances of finding one.

He is seeing a gender affirming therapist and just getting worse. Would anyone have a recommendation for a therapist in the Boston Massachusetts area? Thank you.
I am also looking for a reliable therapist in the Boston area who could help. It is more difficult as my son just turned 25. He has been seeing an affirmation therapist since July and just told me he is trans on Jan 1. I am concerned she is not even asking about his other possible mental health conditions and he has always struggled with his emotions and sharing how he feels, that I doubt he could express anything to her. Please if you find someone let me know.

After lockdown and intense internet use my daughter has ROGD. She is demanding binders, hormones etc and I just want to find a good therapist that won’t go down that road. She has other issues: links to autism and eating disorders.
Try contacting Dr. Marcus Evans in Beckenham, Bromley.  He's at Evans Psychotherapy.  He recently gave a interview on Triggernometry which was outstanding.  I would encourage you to watch it on youtube.  The interview was given in January of this year.  He is definitely non-affirming and believes this behaviour is caused by a number of underlying issues.  If he is not accepting new patients he may well be able to refer you to another provider.  Best of luck.  I know this is a very difficult road to travel.
