Hello, Turmoil.

Welcome to the forum. Your account has been activated.

Now that your membership has been activated, I encourage you to post your question in the members-only area, since members don't frequent this public area too often. Nonaffimring clinicians can be difficult to find, but hopefully a fellow parent on the board will have someone to recommend.

If you end up having to find clinicians on your own, there is advice for going about this in some of the members-only threads, and also there is some helpful guidance here: https://genderexploratory.com/browse/

Another suggestion is to join Parents of ROGDKids. This organization puts you in touch with other parents in your area, and those parents may have someone to recommend. PROGDK also has an online community where screened parents can discuss issues relating specifically to adult sons. You will find a LOT of other parents in your same situation and a LOT of support. To join, go to the link below and click on the red bar at the top to join and fill out the questionnaire. All members are vetted by a couple of volunteers, so please be patient, as the vetting process can take several weeks.

I'm sorry you are dealing with this, but glad you found the board. I hope you find it helpful.

Best wishes.

Hi there, did you ever find a therapist for your child? Do you mind sharing their contact info? thanks!

So I need to find a psychiatrist and therapist in or near Gastonia, NC.  Suggestions needed!

Hello, Irebaglia, and welcome to the forum. Your account has been activated.

The immediate push for blockers and hormones is insane, isn't it?

Welcome to the forum, Mommy123.

I am so sorry for the troubles your daughter and yourself are having. It is such a difficult and upsetting situation to find yourselves in.

I am sending you a PM (private message) with a possible name in a nearby town.

In the meantime, your account has been activated. I encourage you to post your query in the members-only area, now that you have access to it as a forum member. If you post in that area, more members will see your post and you'll have a better chance at getting a response. I also encourage you to visit this page, which has advice for finding, interviewing and vetting therapists:   https://genderexploratory.com/browse/

Often, finding your own therapist using this advice is the best or sometimes even the only way to find a therapist, as most cannot advertise that they offer an exploratory approach because it is considered within some laws to be conversion therapy. Obviously it is not, but that is the insane position parents find themselves in these days.

There is additional advice for finding and vetting therapists inside the members-only area of this forum.

Hang in there, fellow parents are here to offer what help we can, as well as lots of support.

Wishing you the best, and again, welcome to the forum.

I am looking for a therapist on Long Island for my 19 year old daughter who announced a year ago she was transgender.

I had bad experiences with her college therapist in Massachusetts because she was referred to the Fenway Clinic and they wanted to immediately start hormones. They also convinced her she wasn't trans enough and she insisted after meeting with them she needed to be moved to a boys dorm floor.  I had to pay an extra $2000 to provide a private room with a private shower.  Fenway told her to use the boys showers. UGH.

She is home now from college and still speaking about hormones.  KM is a recent ROGD.  She has a history of anxiety, cutting, depression, dyslexia, low self esteem from learning disabilities, poor reaction to SSRI's, hospitalizations, bullying, hypothyroid, PCOS.    I was given 2 names. Shervin Shadianloo MD and Richard Pleak, MD.  I saw one comment on Dr. Pleak from a woman who stated felt pressured into hormones and surgery by Dr. Pleak and his staff and now regrets it.  I'm not sure about Dr. Shadianloo.  I saw that he wrote sections of textbooks about trans gender issues and he may be too gender affirming but I'm not completely sure of his opinions.  He did not have any reviews on any boards that I saw.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you.

I'm not sure if I am replying in the appropriate space, but I will give this a try. Thank you for the advice about whom not to use in Massachusetts. Does anyone know of a good therapist in the Boston area who treats these teens and young adults with a wider lens to focus more on the wider issues, like depression? I would appreciate any recommendations. Thank you.
