My teen has a set of other issues as well, particularly anxiety attacks and depression. I would like to find a psychiatrist in the Denver metro area who could work with these other issues and consider whether to recommend antidepressants. A psychologist or analyst who would be committed to discussing possible non-medical ways of dealing with the dysphoria, depression, and anxiety would also be helpful. I am very concerned about what I have heard about hormones and surgeries being recommended to teens, and would like to avoid health care practitioners who would steer my teen in that direction. Does anybody know of reliable psychiatrists or other health care practitioners in the Denver metro area? On a broader note, what experiences have you all had with helping a trans identified teen with anxiety, depression, and gender dysphoria, and have you found medical practitioners who were committed to examining other avenues than referrals to clinics for hormones and surgeries?Tamara, I am also looking for providers in the Denver area. My 16 year old daughter, who suffers from anxiety and depression, also just told us she is trans. I am happy to share my research with you. Have you had any luck finding help? MothersLove I am also looking for providers in the Denver area. I am happy to share my research with others in Denver looking for therapists as well. My 16 year old daughter just told us she is trans, she also suffers from depression, anxiety and is completely addicted to the internet. I feel like she is a very classic case of ROGD and I am very nervous about finding the right support for her. I am also interested in learning more about attachment parenting. I feel like she turned to the internet in 2015 when my husband and I were going through a very rough time in our marriage, I feel like she drifted away when we were guilty of being emotionally unavailable during a very pivotal time in her life. We need guidance in trying to reconnect with her. |

Hello. I am probably not alone in feeling desperate and lost in all of this. My teen has opened up to me about multiple things, one of which sounds like gender dysphoria. I am frozen solid on what to do next. I am VERY wary of today's political climate (I tend to be a very middle of the road person, looking to reason and credible science where possible) and its influence on this topic is truly scary. I just want to make sure that a doctor we visit will be as unbiased as possible in diagnosing what is actually happening. This all came about at in late teen years, but feelings started with the onset of puberty. Totally normal gender feelings through childhood through their own recollection. I am checking online resources all over the place, but so many are overrun with bias and "cancel" culture stuff (e.g. no room to posit ideas or potential solutions). I really want to help my child through this, but I am so scared to make the wrong decision. I have coached to take things very slow and that the goal should be to resolve the dysphoria with an appropriate professional. Sorry this is so long - just trying to give a little background and look for a potential list of reasonable psychologist/psychiatrists that will not diagnose without real discovery. I am a little nervous about posting my location on the public side of this forum as I do not want this tracing back in any way to my child/family. What would I need to fill out or whom do I connect with to enter the private portion? Thank you! |

Thanks, hummingbird, for your response to Concerned Parent 11. You are right -- Concerned Parent 11 just needed to have their account manually activated. CP11, your account is now activated and you now have access to the entire members-only forum, including the resources section. Please post back if you're still having trouble finding it and we will help you out. |

I would say welcome, but that seems wrong as it means yet another family has been impacted, but you will find a very supportive group here. |
I know this is an older thread but saw that you mentioned a "Resources" section in the members only area on therapists. We are having difficulties locating that page. Could you walk us through how to get there. Thank you
I had the same question. I've seen 'Resources' mentioned a couple of times but can't find it. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. |

I will check. I do believe from all our visits that she is taking a critical eye to my son's "diagnosis". We together decided not to go to Genecis who will only affirm. |

I may have a recommendation, but have to check with our therapist to see if she is taking new patients. Also, not being openly affirming can be a risk to their practice. I do believe she is working through all the issues with our 17yo son who announced his "diagnosis" last fall. We are desperately trying to get things resolved before he is 18 and can get what he wants on his own. |

Can anyone please recommend a neutral therapist or psychiatrist in the Portland, Oregon area? We're only finding gender therapists and affirming practitioners and 15 is the legal age of consent for medical in Oregon. This is 9 months old for us and previously NO signs of gender issues. We're not phobic, but concerned about this wave of FTM in teens! We need help, badly. We've seen a reputable psychologist who did an evaluation and dx anxiety, depression (both mild), and ADHD. Our teen is also verbally gifted but not so much in writing, so the IQ piece was difficult to ascertain. Verbally it was Mensa range (136). I don't really understand the difference, but I guess there are multiple components that go into IQ. Whether or not it's related I don't know, but it makes it extremely difficult to engage with our teen since they're so verbally gifted. You can't change their mind. Sadly, the psychologist doesn't do therapy and didn't know of anyone in our area who was could really dive into what the issues are. If we rule everything else out and we're left with gender dysphoria only, we'll accept that and be supportive, but we need to know that this isn't something else being mislabeled by this trend and trans affirming therapists. Can anyone in Oregon help? |
