Our 20 year old son checks most of these boxes except:
He said he started feeling this way at age 12 but just told us at age 20
He tried to be athletic but eventually gave up after 9th grade
Smart but not a good student ( executive functioning is a major weakness)
Became sexually active and promiscuous in 9th grade (with girls)
Had a serious girlfriend for 18 months (break up was catalyst to his mental deterioration )
No longer interested in dating
We are fiscally conservative but in the center on social issues

All except for 3, 23. And 10. He's a good athlete, but isn't that interested in competition, so maybe 10 is still accurate. And, he doesn't even want to be addressed as she/her or change name. Nothing. But still insists he's trans. Spot on. And, we are liberal.

6. Pre-occupation with hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
7. Parents had no prior hint the teen was trans or homosexual.
8. Smart. Academically talented.

My son fits most of these pointS, but not all. He claims age of onset in teen years, but did not say anything to us until his 20's. He was a competitive dancer for many years always as the male lead later on. He has said specifically that he is not homosexual or bisexual. He has always been a little awkward socai6, but he was very successful at school.and now.at his current job. I am not sure if he has had any sexual experience, but he had been known to watch porn.  He is a successful adult other than this, so number 23 doesn't really fit. 26 is not correct either.  This is all very upsetting as we are unable to find much support as parents who don't think this is at all healthy. It is made even more crazy as his older sister has also told she is now a man. I am feeling hopeless.

This sounds lsimilar to our situation.

Yes, fits almost all the criteria except I dont think he had any trans friends, and we are not a liberal household in the least. but most every other thing tracks!

VERY much my 17yo except we're conservative, he's smart but really struggles with math, hasn't asked us in any way to help with transition. In fact, the only thing he wanted "girlie' when he came out was black sports bras to go under is very goth/emo black head to toe look. He hasn't tried at all to dress more like a "girl". And I don't think he's into the cartoon porn-not that I found when I searched his tech. Mine also has self diagnosed as "on the spectrum".

Thank you for this list.
My 20 year old son came out as trans on Monday after previously coming out as bi on May 31st so he could more freely celebrate Pride month.
Coming out as bi was no big deal to me but coming out as trans was a total shock there were no signs at all.

I know for sure number 21 is a no because that was the first thing I asked him as I had just heard about how powerful it was the day before.
He mocked me and couldn't wait to tell his online trans friends that was my first question.

The only other item that doesn't fit is that his dad and I are both very conservative.
As another member mentioned, my son started shaving his entire body earlier this year and he bought himself an at home laser hair removal device too.

Everything else on the list is SPOT ON.

I’m sorry. Welcome to a club that none of us wanted to join. And yes, that all sounds incredibly familiar.  Heart
